How Shibaura Machine Vertical Turning Lathe Optimize Metal Removal Rates
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL, August 17, 2021 -
Cutting optimization is a key aspect to a more productive machine and competitive foundation. But as many machinists will tell you there are many challenges when it comes to achieving optimal metal removal during this process. Improving Metal Removal Rates (MRR) requires not only a machine that has been engineered with high quality standards, but one that has a capable CNC programming technology.
The Vertical Turning Center from Shibaura Machine offers the most effective way to remove material on cylindrical parts and workpieces. Focused on exacting quality standards to maximize machine tool performance, all machine tools are designed and built with major components cast from the Shibaura Machine foundry. The FANUC control system offers machinists an easy-to-use interface to control spindle speed, feed rate and toolpath motion. This combination of construction and technology allows for a more reliable, accurate, and powerful machining process.
Optimizing MRR with the FANUC Control System
When it comes to optimizing performance of a turning machine the key measure is the calculation of the MRR. This takes into account the Depth of Cut (DOC) and Cutting Velocity (Cv). Utilizing FANUC Constant Surface Speed function in the CNC control the Cv of the workpiece is based on the surface footage of the workpiece diameter.
This CNC function generates the most efficient toolpaths, spindle speed, and feed rate to maintain the tool’s target chip load. The result of this is boosted metal removal rates and an overall more efficient machining process.
Additional benefits of the Constant Surface Speed function include:
- Simple to program
- Constant workpiece surface finish
- Optimum cutting tool life
- Optimum workpiece cycle time
